Description

The government has identified information security as one of the thrust areas. Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) had set up an Inter-Ministerial Working Group on cyber security education and awareness. The working group is to recommend an action plan and strategy for human resource development in the country in the areas of cyber security/ information security leading to a development of indigenous hardware and software capabilities in a core area of information security. On the recommendations of the working group, Information Security Education and Awareness (ISEA) project have been initiated/launched with an outlay of Rs.70 crore for a period of 5 years.

Information Security Education and Awareness Project is for human resource development in the country in the area of information security. The broad aims are to: introduce information security curriculum at M.Tech. & B.Tech. levels and in research activity/Ph.D.;

Train the system administrators/professionals by offering 1-year PG diploma, 6- months certificate course, 6-weeks/2-weeks the training programme in information security.

Train Central and State (Government officers), in information security issues; undertake education exchange programme. bring information security awareness in the country.

Objective

Eligibility

AICTE/UGC approved institution conducting graduate/post-graduate programmes in engineering disciplines. Non-profit organisations. Having two streams of Bachelor/Master of engineering course already running in the institute, i.e., Computer science/Engineering and electronics & communications.

Introduction of information security curriculum is to be implemented through 9 resource centres and 35 participating institutes.

The resource centres will be the mentoring institutions for the participating institutes and are premier institutes like IITs, IISc Bangaluru and TIFR Mumbai, while the participating institutes include National Institutes of Technology, Government degree, engineering colleges, societies of DIT, etc.
