Assembly elections in Punjab was held on 4 February 2017. on 11 March 2017 result was announced. Indian National Congress (INC) formed the Government under the leadership of Capt Amarinder Singh on 16 March 2017. Indian National Congress (INC) party leader Capt Amarinder Singh took charge as the Chief Minister of Punjab on 16 March 2017 along with other 9 ministers.

The Government of Punjab consists of total 10 Ministers including 8 cabinet ministers and 2 Minister of state(MoS) . The Cabinet of the state of Punjab forms the executive branch of the Government of Punjab. The Punjab Vidhan Sabha (Punjab Legislative Assembly) consists of 117 members (MLA), and these members are elected for five years.

There are two types of the minister in state government, which is determined by the position or grade. The superior or primary being Cabinet Ministers "Cabinet Minister" and the junior or secondary being "minister of State".

A cabinet minister may also hold additional charges of other Ministries if no other cabinet ministers are appointed to take charge of that ministries. Minister of state(MoS) of Punjab with Independent Charge 2017

Minister of State (Mos) handles or takes charge of specific responsibility in that ministry. For example, a minister of state in the Education Ministry may only handle Primary Education. There are two types of the state minister in Punjab government, Minister of state with independent charge and Minister of state.
